The City of Zenica has become part of the Agenda 2030 adopted in September 2015 by the United Nations to boost the global efforts in supporting sustainable development goals worldwide.

The 17 sustainable development goals need to be tackled at the international, regional, national and local level. Also, every single human being is expected to do his/her utmost to help the world reach the harmonized level of development for the people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs with no exception.

As part of the German initiative to boost the Agenda 2030 efforts with the cities from South East Europe who have their partner cities in Germany, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs acting through Engagement Global Agency started a two-year pilot program of cooperation aimed at achieving local development goals of the Agenda 2030.

Zenica has embarked on this process with its German partner Gelsenkirchen, a host to the forthcoming meeting of the German and SEE city representatives in 2017.
